2018 Talent Awards tribute Arrufat’s work in founding software company AWAAIT and developing the pioneering fare-evasion control system DETECTOR.

Barcelona, July 5th, 2018 – AWAAIT’s CEO, Xavier Arrufat, has been granted the Mobility Career 2018 Talent Award in recognition of his professional path in the field. The award honours Arrufat for founding the software company AWAAIT and developing DETECTOR, a pioneering system that tackles fare-evasion in real-time using Artificial Intelligence. Xavier received the prize at the 2018 IV Talent Awards gala on July 4th at Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau.

Talent Awards are a Welcome Talent Society initiative to give visibility to the talent that helps to improve Barcelona’s and Catalonia’s brand image. This year’s was the fourth edition and had 7 categories: 2D and 3D Design, Healthy Food, Commerce, Environment, Mobility and Tourism.

About DETECTOR

DETECTOR is an automatic real-time video analytics system that aims to tackle fare evasion on public transport. Using Artificial Intelligence-Machine Learning algorithms, a camera above ticket barriers observes the ticket validation process and sends an alert to inspectors’ smartphones when it detects fare-dodging. This allows very selective controls to intercept offenders before they reach the platform, effectively helping to reduce fare evasion without bothering paying passengers and, therefore, not disrupting overall mobility.
