Barcelona, May 2015 – DETECTOR has been proclaimed one of the four finalists at the UITP Global Awards 2015 under the category “Technical and Operational Excellence”. The association of public transport recognized AWAAIT’s fare dodging detection system for its “innovation value” and “the impressive combination of simplicity of use, precision and artificial intelligence technology”.
UITP’s nomination is a great feat for AWAAIT, since DETECTOR is competing with projects promoted by giants in public transport the size of TfL (Transport for London), with 1,3bn passengers a year, Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation with 1,5bn passengers/y and Seoul’s metro with 2,5bn passengers/y.
AWAAIT participates with a joint candidacy led by the regional and commuter train operator Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), collaborator in DETECTOR’s development. The candidacy was submitted under the title “Fair fares for all: Artificial Intelligence and mobile technologies on the aid of ticket inspectors”.
