Showcasing a Real-Time Fare Evasion Detection AI System in Collaboration with Dubai’s RTA and Cisco 

Barcelona – September 6, 2024 – AWAAIT’s CEO, Xavier Arrufat, is set to participate in the ITS World Congress 2024, taking place in Dubai from September 16th to 20th. During the event, Xavier will showcase AWAAIT’S fare evasion detection system in buses and present a detailed paper on the success of the Proof of Concept (POC) performed in collaboration with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) and Cisco. 

The panel, “AI Applications and Human Factors,” will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM (GST) at Sheikh Maktoum Hall B, Dubai World Trade Centre. 

The paper, titled “Innovative AI-Driven Solution for Real-Time Fare Evasion Detection in Dubai Urban Buses,” highlights the successful proof of concept (POC) of AWAAIT’s advanced AI and machine learning technologies in detecting and measuring fare evasion in Dubai’s urban bus network. The POC, conducted over three months on two operational buses, demonstrated the system’s ability to identify fare evasion events in real time.

AWAAIT initially used Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors in its POC to accurately detect passenger behavior patterns while maintaining privacy. AWAAIT is now developing a more cost-effective solution that relies purely on video surveillance cameras, to facilitate its adoption across bus operators.
